Jackson Rowe and Bloor Homes’ Community Collaboration Transforms Lives in Basingstoke

15 March 2024

In May 2023 a collaborative effort between Jackson Rowe, Bloor Homes and Hampshire County Council put together a site visit tailored to a group of unemployed adults. The visit was a key component of a two-week course designed to immerse participants in the world of construction. Covering industry insights, job prospects and essential skill acquisition, the course set a clear objective for every attendee to obtain a Health & Safety qualification and their CSCS certification by its conclusion.

As their first week concluded, participants were invited to Bloor Homes’ site in Basingstoke. Here they met the developer, learned about the project, and had the invaluable opportunity to engage directly with industry professionals, gain first-hand insights into the project and experience the bustling energy of a live construction site.

33-year-old John Gray seized the opportunity to secure his CSCS card and embark on a new career. Starting as an agency worker on the site he had visited months earlier, John’s dedication and competence impressed so much it earned him a permanent position as Site Operative with Bloor Homes.

Similarly, Fiona Bartlett’s journey demonstrates the impact of this collaborative endeavour. Initially joining the site through an agency, Fiona’s versatility and commitment saw her transition from roles such as cleaning, to securing a full-time position with Bloor Homes, demonstrating the transformative potential of community-driven initiatives.

These success stories highlight the importance of Jackson Rowe and Bloor Homes’ commitment to community engagement, fostering long-term empowerment within Basingstoke and Deane and we are thankful to Harry Rippon, Head of Employment & Skills for his continued efforts, commitment and dedication.
