Work Experience with Jackson Rowe

At the Jackson Rowe Southampton Office we are delighted to have Matt Rolls with us for a 2-month work experience placement to support his MSc in Quantity Surveying at the University of Portsmouth. With a BA Hons in Architecture, Matt brings a solid academic foundation to this role.

During his placement, Matt has been actively shadowing all members of Jackson Rowe’s Project Delivery team which has given him valuable insights into various aspects of project management. His tasks have included:

• Updating a project streetlighting tracker: ensuring all data is current and accurate.
• Tree protection fencing alterations: marking up plans and obtaining quotes.
• Reptile fencing measurement: Measuring a section of reptile fencing on site.
• General Surveying and Project Delivery: assisting with various surveying tasks and supporting project delivery.
• Attending meetings: participating in site coordination meetings and consortium meetings at our Boorley Gardens site, gaining exposure to collaborative project planning and decision-making processes.

Matt is contributing to the Boorley Gardens Employment & Skills Plan targets on behalf of Bellway Homes and Miller Homes, providing social value to local residents in conjunction with the new housing development.

Alongside Assistant Quantity Surveyor, Mavin Sarai, Matt attended the Boorley Green site to inspect the public right of way, where some timber fencing was missing. Matt used a measuring wheel to determine the length of replacement fencing needed.

Under the guidance of Director, Sandy Barnes, and Head of Employment & Skills, Harry Rippon, Matt’s hands-on experience at Jackson Rowe is not only enhancing his own practical skills, but also reinforcing his academic learning. His work on Employment and Skills Plans, in particular, underscores Jackson Rowe’s commitment to contributing positively to the community.

These experiences are preparing Matt well for a successful career in Quantity Surveying.
