JACKSON ROWE CELEBRATE 10 YEARS OF EXCELLENCE BY SPONSORING THE ROYAL MARINES ‘TEAM POLAR 2000’ expidition

"More Men Have Been to the Moon, than Quantity Surveyors at the North Pole"

As part of the 10th Anniversary of Jackson Rowe, Partners, Daniel Rowe and Graham Harrison travelled to meet the Royal Marines on the last leg of the Royal Marines Polar 2000 expedition, which led to the the Royal Marines becoming the first Britons, and only the second expedition in history, to walk to the North Pole unsupported.

The expedition was only made possible with the help provided by the sponsorship given by Jackson Rowe to the Royal Marines, and the trip covered 60 miles of the most inhospitable terrain in the world on foot. The Directors had to participate in an intensive training regime by climbing mountains in freezing conditions, spending a freezing night in the Ashdown Forest and were trained in Polar survival tactics and how to deal with the threat of Polar Bears by the Royal Marine.

The trip offered the intrepid duo an insight into the activities of a Polar Explorer reflecting the harsh life in the High Artic. They experienced first-hand living in arctic conditions with temperatures as low as -50 degC, surviving insnow holes, igloos and tents. They explored this harsh region on skidoos, trekking, and climbing into the explorers harness and man hauling a laden sledge across the pack ice.

Daniel Rowe commented: “We quickly learnt that to survive in the hostile arctic environment, working together with a common purpose and teamwork is essential. It is an experience that will always be with me.”

Graham Harrison commented: “We tested our personal limits in an environment that most people on this planet will never encounter. It was a lifetime’s experience in two weeks.”

Daniel & GrahamOn their triumphant return to the UK, Jackson Rowe hosted a luncheon at the Four Seasons Hotel, London attended by over 500 guests from the construction industry, with Michael Portillo, MP as guest of honour and speaker – during the luncheon there was a satellite link up with the Royal Marines, who explained about their record breaking Trek to the North Pole Unsupported. Leader of the Expedition, RM Alan Chambers, received a message of congratulations from the Royal Family and is subsequently awarded the OBE.
